Google UX - Search x Gemini Integration

UX Research and User Interface Prototype
Three teammates (Ainsley, Katherine, and Alekhya) and I participated in Google UX's 8-week Design Challenge in collaboration with Design @ Columbia of Columbia University. We were tasked to develop a product or integration that makes use of generative AI to aid the elderly in adapting to today's technology.

The challenge was less fast-paced and less focused in producing an elaborate user interface, but rather more focused in delving deep into each aspect of the design process by engaging in UX research and testing, to repeatedly iterate through prototypes through user testing and to arrive at a user-centered and applicable design. Overall, we conducted interviews and user testing on 12+ of the elderly population.

We presented at the Google NYC Headquarters on March 29, 2024.
Below was our design process.

Low Fidelity Prototypes

Final High Fidelity Prototype

Based on the research, testing, and low fidelity prototyping we have done, this became our final iteration.

The main features were:
  • Gemini Autofill provides Gemini prompt alternatives to the regular autofill, familiarizes elders with AI.
  • Gemini Tools provides a step-by-step framework for common queries, introduces elders to prompting.
